Spring-time has arrived, and after a rough winter we’ve no doubt accumulated a stash of survival essentials within our homes. An itchy, knit sweater here, a pile of greeting cards there; the holiday season in all their festive joy do tend to bring a lot of unnecessary clutter into our homes and lives.
While this is never done with ill-intent, these items begin to pile up and before you know it, you’re stressed out at the prospect of the several weeks of cleaning that lay ahead. Fear not! Here at Top to Toe we’ve accumulated a wealth of spring cleaning tips that will help you declutter both your living space and your mind! Ready? Brew a cup of our stress-less tea to get started, and let’s get down to cleaning!
Having a single room to clean and reorganize can be daunting, let alone an entire home. Therefore, it’s essential to begin the process by writing down a list of what you aim to clean first. Keeping this list realistic is extremely important to avoiding stress, as being unable to meet unrealistic expectations may only make the problem worse. Instead keep it simple, start by cleaning off a desk or a shelf, and move outwards from there. Before you know it, you’ll have that room completed, and be ready to move on to the next items on your list.
Deciding to what to keep and what to part with is often times one of the most stressful aspects of spring-cleaning. Since everyone’s a little different, there is no one method to help decide when it’s time to give something away; instead here are a few tips to keep in mind when making the choice. First of all, be honest with yourself when cleaning. Are you really going to wear that old festive sweater that shrunk in the dryer? Maybe, but probably not. If you’re truly struggling to make the decision on whether or not to part with an item, consider placing it in a ‘maybe’ box, and stashing the box away. If several months have passed and you have not yet opened the box, it’s probably time to donate.
Above all else, believe in yourself. This might sound silly or cliché, but visualizing your end result is a great way to help motivate yourself into realizing your fully decluttered space. With a decluttered space, comes a happy home and a healthy mind; so don’t underestimate the power of a little spring cleaning!
